Accessibility statement

Praxis is a professional tool used by trainee teachers and early career teachers, many of whom rely on assistive technology. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA across the whole product, and we treat accessibility failures as bugs, not enhancements.

• Keyboard operation: controls are reachable and operable without a mouse (exceptions are listed under known limitations), and a “Skip to content” link is the first focusable element on every page. Lesson activities can be reordered with move up and move down buttons as well as by dragging. On the timetable grid, classes are placed from the keyboard (choose a class chip, then the button in any empty cell), a placed class has a Move button that opens a list of free periods (its lessons, room and role go with it), and events are added and edited through the event editor.
• Time limits: the message that offers Undo after you move or remove a timetable slot stays until you dismiss it or make another change, and Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) undoes it from anywhere on the page. Other short confirmations clear after five seconds, never while the pointer or focus is on them, and are also announced to screen readers.
• Screen readers: pages use landmark regions, one logical heading structure, labelled form fields (we are still labelling a few compact controls), and live regions that announce the results of asynchronous actions (generation, uploads, errors).
• Focus management: navigating between pages moves focus to the new page’s main content. Dialogs, the phone notifications panel and delete confirmations take focus when they open and hand it back when they close.
• Colour and contrast: we aim for AA contrast throughout and fix failures as bugs; no information is conveyed by colour alone, and status is always paired with a text label.
• Voice features are optional everywhere: live transcription and dictation always sit alongside an equivalent typed workflow, never replace it.
• Zoom and reflow: the interface remains usable at 200% browser zoom.

• The observation note box offers suggestions as you type. It is a multi-line text box announced as a combo box, which some screen readers describe in an unusual way; typing works normally and the suggestions are optional.
• Some small, dense text (chart axis labels on narrow screens, a few secondary captions) falls below AA contrast; these are being fixed.
• Live transcription depends on your browser’s speech recognition (Chrome, Edge and Safari support it; Firefox does not). The typed alternative is always available.
• Previews of uploaded PowerPoint files use Microsoft’s embedded Office viewer, whose accessibility we don’t control; the original file can always be downloaded and opened in your own software.
• Charts on the analytics page include text summaries, but the charts themselves are visual; we are extending the underlying data tables.
